Rubble From Demolished Low Lying Yangtze River Cities is Carefully Gathered for Reuse

Demolition of structures too close to the newly vastly higher Yangtze River - due to construction of the Three Gorges Dam - has resulted in immediate need for replacement cities high up on the hillsides. The rubble left from the demolition has been carefully collected, generally by hand, from each location and is being reused wherever possible in the new construction. Cruise ship passengers may see a local freighter such as that in the photo collecting the rubble or often they may see local residents out picking up that rubble with cardboard boxes, baskets and any possible container so that they might reuse it some day themselves.
