Over 1,000 years this Basilica has fascinated the countless millions who have come to see its incredible architecture and decoration which have held their beauty through both peace and many wars. The side wall in this photo connects the Basilica with the Doge's Palace which is yet another Venetian architectural treasure which you simply must tour. Looking for this doorway? This magnificent stone work is over a doorway connecting St. Mark's Basilica with the Doges Palace and it is easily found as you walk around in the Piazetta which is the smaller plaza area connecting the large main Plaza with the Lagoon. A side of the Basilica will be on your left as you face this doorway and the Doges Palace on your right. Be absolutely sure to visit both architectural marvels - I mean visit them both inside for it is not enough to admire them only from the outside.
